Marquetry Jewellery Workshop (places available)

Suitable for complete beginners.
The course will include an introduction to the basic techniques of pictorial and geometric marquetry. Students will cut hardwood veneers and assemble marquetry panels for items of jewellery and, time permitting, assemble and glue-up the items. Finishing and polishing will be discussed, but it may be necessary for the items to be completed after the course – either by the student or tutor.

Residential Marquetry Course (places available)
Tuesday 6 July - Friday 9 July 2010

Suitable for complete beginners.
The course starts with an introduction to knife-cut marquetry techniques. Students work at their own pace, beginning with a simple design which, once cut, will be pressed, sanded and polished. More advanced techniques, such as shading using hot air or sand, cutting geometric patterns and fine detailing will be covered later in the course as appropriate.
